OUR TEACHERS

Penny Waterman
Principal of the Penny Waterman School of Dance
Penny started dancing when she was 3 and at age 11 went on to study dance professionally at the Arts Educational Schools in Tring & London.
She has qualifications in the Royal Academy of Dancing, the International Dance Teachers Association & the Imperial Society of the Teachers of Dance and has danced with The London Festival Ballet Company.
Penny set up her own dance school in 1979 and taught ballet, tap and modern for over 40 years. Today she concentrates on the running of the School.

Sanna - Teacher
Sanna's passion for dance began at 5 years old upon seeing ballet for the first time. Since then she studied and trained in many schools around the world, including St Petersburg, Florence, New York and Marseille. Sanna has danced professionally in ballet companies in Finland, Florence and France where she performed soloist roles. She also trained as a teacher and loves to share this with others. Sanna has a wonderfully caring way with the children she teaches.

Lisa - Teacher
Lisa started dancing at the age of 3 and went on to train at The Urdang Academy for three years gaining a national diploma in professional Musical Theatre. After graduating she went to LA to take more dance classes and acting workshops. Since returning Lisa has been involved in modelling, TV and dance work including the 'Move It' exhibition and Bloch dance wear. She now shares her passion to dance with the children in our School and is very popular and encouraging with the little ones.

Sarah - Teacher
Sarah started dancing with the Penny Waterman School of Dance herself when she was 2 years old and later moved on to continue to study at The Centre for Advanced Training in London. She has been teaching for a few years now and has performed in shows with different choreographers and dancers across the UK. Sarah's ambition is to continue dancing and teaching in the future and has returned to our School to teach some of our younger children.

Marley - Teacher
Marley started dancing with the Marguerita Hoare School of Dance at the age of 3 and then trained at the Moonglow Studios with Bobbie Chatt. She has since performed in many local musicals such as Godspell and Pirates of Penzance in the Abbey Theatre. Marley has sung with the Hertfordshire Youth Choir and has recently taken part in several county dance festivals in the Alban Arena for charity. Marley recently took time off to have her little boy and is now teaching again for us on Saturdays.

Katy - Teacher
Katy couldn’t imagine life without ballet! She started classes at the age of three, later training at the Royal Academy of Dance and the Arts Educational School, Tring. Her three daughters all dance too, one of whom is in full time vocational ballet training. Katy brings passion, creativity, kindness and warmth to her teaching. She has a special affinity with children and loves guiding them through their first steps in dance, building a strong foundation as they progress to more serious ballet.

Sophie - Teacher
Sophie was originally trained at the Bristol School of Dancing and the Bristol Ballet Centre and did her professional training at the London Studio Centre. She has also studied singing, Contemporary, Tap, Jazz and Modern as well as other forms of dance and danced professionally for 5 years. Sophie has taught girls and boys GCSE & A'Level dance in secondary schools as well as adults and has recently completed her PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate of Education).

Lily - Teacher
Lily’s love of dance began at the age of 2 where she trained at the Wheathampstead Dance Academy. She has studied and trained internationally including Sydney & New York, and recently performed with the New Jersey Ballet Company. She has extensive teaching experience with multiple performing arts schools and classes in dance & drama across a range of ages. Her knowledge, warmth, patience and understanding inspire her students to share in her love of dance.
